How Ahmedabad's textile trade differs from Surat's
Surat is built on synthetic sarees and dress materials sold in catalogue sets. Ahmedabad's trade leans on cotton: shirting and suiting fabric, denim, printed and dyed cloth, home textiles, dress materials and ready-made garments. Much of it moves by the metre or by the thaan (roll), and a lot of it goes to garment makers rather than shops.
That changes what a website must do. A Panchkuva fabric trader needs per-metre pricing and minimum roll lengths. A Narol or Naroda garment maker needs size-ratio ordering. A Gheekanta kurti wholesaler needs set-wise selling much like Surat. One template does not fit all three.
Who in Ahmedabad gains most from going online
| Business type | Typical markets and areas | What the website must handle |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton and suiting fabric traders | New Cloth Market, Maskati Cloth Market, Panchkuva | Per-metre or per-thaan pricing, minimum length, swatch requests |
| Kurti and dress material wholesalers | Gheekanta, Ratanpole, Sindhi Market | Catalogue sets, MOQ, dealer-only rates |
| Denim and garment manufacturers | Narol, Naroda, Vatva industrial areas | Size-ratio ordering, capability pages, bulk enquiry |
| Home textile brands | Sumel Business Park, Nutan Cloth Market | Dimensions, thread count, material specs |
Find any market's location and speciality on the Ahmedabad textile market directory.
Step 1: Put the catalogue online with real specs
Cotton buyers judge fabric on numbers, so each product should state composition (100% cotton, cotton-lycra), GSM or weight, width in inches, weave or finish, and colour range. Add a close-up photo in daylight and a photo of the full thaan or garment.
Start with the 100 to 250 qualities that sell every month. Repeat buyers look for those first.
Step 2: Pick the selling model
- Catalogue website: buyers browse and send an enquiry or WhatsApp. Best if every order is negotiated.
- Dealer-login B2B store: approved buyers see their rate and order themselves. Best for fixed rate lists and regular dealers.
- B2B + B2C: a retail store alongside wholesale, with online payment. Best for brands and manufacturers selling direct.
Step 3: Set dealer pricing, MOQ and credit
Most Ahmedabad trade runs on known dealers and credit. The store should show different rates to dealers, retailers and walk-in buyers, enforce MOQ (by metre, roll, set or order value), and let approved dealers order on account while new buyers pay upfront. See the 12 features every B2B textile store needs.
Step 4: Add GST, transport and WhatsApp
Capture the buyer's GSTIN and print HSN codes on every invoice. Let buyers choose their own transporter or a courier and record the LR number. Keep a WhatsApp button on every product so orders can still be confirmed the way your buyers are used to.
What it costs
At BizTorq, a catalogue website starts at ₹35,000, a B2B wholesale store at ₹75,000 and full B2B + B2C commerce at ₹1,45,000, excluding taxes, hosting and domain, with no commission on orders. See pricing. Ask whether your project qualifies under the Gujarat Textile Policy 2024 before you budget; check the current terms with the state textile department.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell fabric by the metre on my website?
Yes. Each quality can be priced per metre with a minimum length and fixed steps, for example a minimum of 50 metres in steps of 10, or sold per thaan with the roll length shown.
Can dealers order on credit through the website?
Yes. Approved dealers can be allowed to place orders "on account" with a credit limit, while new buyers pay by UPI, card or bank transfer before dispatch.
Do I need different websites for wholesale and retail?
No. One OpenCart store can show dealer rates to logged-in wholesale buyers and retail prices with online payment to everyone else, managed from one admin panel.
How long does it take to go live?
A catalogue website takes 3 to 4 weeks and a dealer-login B2B store 5 to 8 weeks. The main factor is how quickly product photos and specs are ready.
Do you work with Ahmedabad businesses in person?
Yes. BizTorq works with Ahmedabad clients remotely and on site, and most projects start with a 20-minute call.
