What decides the cost of an eCommerce website

  1. Store type. A catalogue site has no checkout. A B2B wholesale store needs buyer logins, group prices and MOQ rules, so it costs more than a retail store.
  2. Number of products. Larger catalogues need filters, faster hosting and bulk import tools. Uploading thousands of designs is often the biggest hidden job.
  3. Wholesale features. Bulk order sheets, set-wise ordering, GST invoices and buyer approval are each separate work.
  4. Integrations. Payment gateways, Shiprocket or transporter tracking, and Tally or ERP sync add setup and testing time.
  5. Design. A customised premium theme is fast and affordable. A fully custom design costs more but sets your brand apart.
  6. Platform. OpenCart has no licence or monthly fee. Shopify charges a monthly plan and an extra fee per order on third-party gateways.
  7. Extras. Multi-language, SEO setup, migration from an old site and a mobile app are optional add-ons.

OpenCart vs Shopify vs WooCommerce: what you really pay

Build cost is only part of the picture. What you pay every month and on every order matters more over three years.

Example: a wholesaler selling ₹50 lakh a year online through Razorpay pays Shopify about ₹1,00,000 a year in extra transaction fees on the Basic plan, on top of the monthly plan and gateway charges. On OpenCart that money stays with you. Plan prices change, so check Shopify's current India pricing before deciding.

How we calculate these prices

The ranges come from BizTorq's own OpenCart project quotes for wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers in Surat, Ahmedabad and across India. The lower figure suits a simple setup with clean product data; the higher figure covers extra revisions, complex pricing rules or messy catalogues. Prices exclude GST and are reviewed every quarter.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an eCommerce website cost in India in 2026?

About ₹25,000–₹35,000 for a catalogue or enquiry website, ₹81,000–₹1.25 lakh for a typical retail store with online payment and courier integration, and ₹1.18 lakh–₹1.74 lakh for a B2B wholesale store. A multi-vendor marketplace starts around ₹1.8 lakh. These are BizTorq's 2026 OpenCart ranges, excluding GST.

Why does a B2B wholesale website cost more than a retail store?

A wholesale store needs features a retail store does not: buyer login and approval, separate prices for each customer group, minimum order quantity (MOQ), set-wise ordering, bulk order sheets, GST invoices with the buyer's GSTIN and transporter dispatch. Each one is extra setup and testing.

Is OpenCart really free?

Yes. OpenCart is open-source software with no licence fee, no monthly plan and no per-order platform fee. You pay once for design, development and any paid extensions, then only for hosting, domain and optional maintenance.

What are the hidden costs of an eCommerce website?

The common ones are product upload (photos, titles, prices for every design), payment gateway fees of about 2% plus GST per online payment, yearly hosting and domain renewal, paid extensions or apps, and maintenance or updates. On Shopify, add the monthly plan and its extra transaction fee when you use a third-party gateway such as Razorpay.

How long does it take to build an eCommerce website?

A catalogue website takes 2–3 weeks, a retail store 3–5 weeks and a B2B wholesale store 4–6 weeks. ERP sync, custom design, product upload and an app add time. The calculator shows a timeline for your exact setup.

Can I start with a small website and add features later?

Yes, and it is often the smart choice. Many textile businesses start with a catalogue or a simple wholesale store, then add online payment, bulk ordering, Tally sync or an app once orders grow. OpenCart is modular, so features are added without rebuilding the store.

Is the calculator price the final quote?

No. It is an indicative range so you can plan your budget. BizTorq gives a fixed written quote within one working day after a short call about your products, buyers and ordering process.

Do the prices include GST?

No. All amounts on this page exclude GST. 18% GST applies to development services, and if you are GST-registered you can usually claim it as input tax credit.
